Project description
In 2017, I created a large-scale multimedia installation that integrated a wooden structure, sound, video, and performance. Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Yogi Bhajan on white tantric yoga, as conveyed through pre-recorded video, alongside the philosophical works of Michel Foucault and Giorgio Agamben, my piece explores themes of healing, spirituality, biopower, and sovereign power relations.
The installation juxtaposes elements of medieval torture, still present in undemocratic regimes, with the more subtle forms of modern discipline observed in institutions such as the military and schools. Through this contrast, the work navigates the complex dynamics of power and control, highlighting the interplay of joy and ecstasy with pain, humor with bitterness, and light with darkness. It examines the effects of both exerting and being subjected to control, illustrating the tension between power and vulnerability, and the dualities of selfhood and selflessness in relation to authority and submission.
